Hello! My name is Stacey Gripshover. I live in Northern Kentucky with my sweet little family on a little farm. My wonderful husband and I have three beautiful children, including Leo, the child we lost in 2012.
Leo was born still on April 14, 2012. I was 30 weeks and 6 days pregnant. I went for a routine office visit on April 12 and my OB could not find Leo’s heartbeat. I had gone a week and a half prior to get an injection because my blood type is Rh- and my nurse at the time had a difficult time finding his heart rate. I did not question, because she was a health professional and she said she found it. The following week at my OB appointment, my OB agreed that the place in which she said she found his heart rate was probably not his, but mine.
I am a nurse. I am supposed to know it is ok to question someone who is caring for you. That is what I actually prefer when I am taking care of someone, and I didn’t.
After Leo died, someone called the funeral home and paid for his service and funeral. It was supposed to be a little graveside service, but when we lined up at the cemetery cars kept coming and coming. I felt a lot of love in that week and continue to feel very supported.
My goal as a Count the Kicks Ambassador and nurse is to raise awareness about stillbirth prevention.
Our sweet Lola was born 1 year and 3 months after we lost Leo – happy and healthy. I could not be more proud to say that she is proof that Count the Kicks works.
Please email me if you’d like to get involved in making sure parents-to-be know about Count the Kicks.
