“My doctor suggested the Count the Kicks app to me in order to keep a closer eye on my baby’s patterns and movements. I experienced preterm birth with my first child, so my doctors wanted to monitor my second pregnancy very closely. As a result, I had weekly doctor appointments starting at 12 weeks, as well as biweekly non-stress tests (NST) and additional monitoring.

My daughter was always active in the morning. At around 29 weeks and 2 days I woke up and noticed she wasn’t as active as she usually was, so I started to track her movements. She had only moved twice in an hour and she would normally get to 10 by then. I called my doctor and they told me to go into labor and delivery immediately.

Once I got to labor and delivery, we were hooked up to the NST as well as a blood pressure monitor that took my blood pressure every 10 minutes. My blood pressure was through the roof.  I ended up being diagnosed with severe preeclampsia and they would need to admit me to antepartum until my baby decided to come. The doctors said I could have had a stroke at any minute if I hadn’t come in due to the level of my blood pressure.

At 31 weeks we ended up having to go into an emergency cesarean section due to her heart rate dropping while on the nonstress test. Baby Aeryss was born on May 30 weighing 2 pounds,  8 ounces.

I can’t imagine what the outcome could have been had I not had this app to keep track of my baby’s movements. My advice to expectant parents would be to listen to your gut and advocate for yourself and your baby. Nobody knows your baby better than you!” -Destyni S., Aeyrss’ mom
