“Counting my baby’s kicks with the Count the Kicks app was something that saved her life. At 37 weeks and 1 day, around 10 p.m., I didn’t feel my baby moving a lot. One thing I remember being told was sugar and cold water helps to get the baby moving.* So I did just that — drank some cold water and waited to feel my baby moving while laying down. My baby’s lack of movement caused concern for me, so I decided to go get checked at the hospital because I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep not knowing if everything was OK with my baby.

When I got to the hospital, the nurse was excited to tell me the baby had a heartbeat, but her high heart rate and decreased fetal movements raised concern. My doctor reviewed everything and ultimately made the decision to do an emergency cesarean section because he believed the baby was in real distress.

Surgery was a success, and my baby spent eight days in the NICU, but is home and doing well now. I’m so happy I trusted my mommy intuition and used the kick counting method!” -Ebony F., Cianna’s mom

Editor’s Note: Research shows that fetal movement is best monitored without interventions like juice, candy, or drinking ice water.
