Almetria Turner, CCHW, MMCHW, CLES, CPPC, CPST, CMHE, RYT, RPYT, REC-C, IMH-E, MA (she/her), is a Multi-Hyphenate Wellness DisruptHER, and a reproductive justice and health equity advocate redefining holistic, community, and maternal health to increase positive birth outcomes and promote healthy and sustainable lifestyles.
She earned her Bachelors and Masters degree in Journalism with an emphasis in Advertising and Public Relations from the University of Memphis and Certificates in Women’s Entrepreneurship, Community Health, Diabetes Prevention and Self Management, and Health Coaching from Cornell University, Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, Emory University Rollins School of Public Health, University of Illinois Chicago and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
She is the proud owner of Roots and River Wellness and Northeast Arkansas Doulas, two full spectrum doula, community and perinatal service organizations helping women, birthing people and their families become rooted and grounded while celebrating the joys of pregnancy, postpartum and parenthood. She also owns RunHer Performance, a run coaching and event management company.

In 2024 Almetria was confirmed and appointed by the State of Tennessee Commissioner of Health to serve on the Maternal Mortality Review Committee and Prevention Team until Oct. 2027. She successfully piloted a free doula program through an 18 month state grant given by the Tennessee Department of Health to offer doula support and services for TennCare Medicaid eligible recipients as the only doula organization in Memphis chosen to implement this initiative with a 90% full-term and 100% lactation initiation rate.
Almetria was recently named as a co-facilitator of Postpartum Support International’s Doula Peer Consultant Group and has been serving as a TN/AR/MS PSI Volunteer Support Coordinator for the past three years.
In addition to serving on more than 20 local, state, and national advisory boards and task forces in community and maternal health such as the Doula Alliance of Arkansas and Cribs for Kids, she is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the Junior League of Memphis. She has multiple certifications in maternal, community, mental health, childbirth, lactation, diabetes prevention and self-management, nutrition, long-distance running, yoga, pilates, and group fitness.
Almetria is honored to be named a Count the Kicks Ambassador for the state of Tennessee and the first in Arkansas, in recognition of her commitment to advancing evidence-based education and holistic wraparound support in perinatal health. Her work focuses on reducing health equity gaps and preventable deaths in under-resourced urban and rural communities by addressing the drivers of health, disparities, systemic issues and generational weathering, especially among Black and Brown bodies.
