Hi! I’m Chrissy Dougan and I live in Harborcreek, Penn. (a small town along beautiful Lake Erie). I do life with my biggest supporters: My husband, Gibby, and sons, Landon and Noah.
I am blessed to have a career I am passionate about: working with growing families as a Childbirth Educator, Birth Doula, and Postpartum Doula. I have a unique role in that I sometimes support a family as soon as they receive their positive pregnancy test, all throughout pregnancy, at their birth, and into their postpartum journey. Sometimes that postpartum journey does not include the living baby they expected it to include.
Families reach out to me during their most joyous times and their most devastating times. My goal with serving as a Count the Kicks Ambassador is to spread the word that counting kicks is truly an effective way to both bond with your baby and potentially save lives.
Though it’s an honor to walk beside families in their darkest hour, if we can prevent them from getting to that place to begin with, that is the goal. Experiencing pregnancy/infant loss affects you for the rest of your life, and it’s far too common. Pennsylvania has the 18th highest stillbirth rate in the country; an average of 858 babies are born still in Pennsylvania each year. Working so closely with expecting families, I feel a responsibility and drive to do something to change this startling statistic.
Beyond the statistic, I meet with these grieving families face-to-face and hold their hands as they cry and question, “why me?” The evidence is overwhelming that counting kicks saves lives. I never want anyone to look back and ask why they didn’t know about the Count the Kicks app, a resource that is so readily accessible; a tool you can keep close both day and night.
