Chief Medical Officer- Ohio
Gary Grosel is the Chief Medical Officer for Ohio in the commercial line of business for UnitedHealthcare. He hails from Ohio and attended Miami University where he earned a Bachelor of Philosophy degree and then obtained his MD degree from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine.
Dr. Grosel completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency at Akron City Hospital and practiced for 16 years in both the University and Cleveland Clinic Health Care Systems, winning numerous teaching awards for both medical students and residents. He founded and ran a successful Ob/Gyn recertification company for 15 years during this time as well.
Dr. Grosel joined the UHC Inpatient Care Management team as the Regional Medical Director in 2017. Within two years, he was promoted to Chief Medical Officer and currently holds this position in the commercial line of business for the Ohio Health Plan.
Dr. Grosel was made aware of Count The Kicks from the UHC’s Quality Director and immediately was on board with the program.
“I love the mission of Count The Kicks and the team behind the name is fantastic. After I saw the consistent success they had in Iowa, I fought to have Ohio become a part of their mission. Although Count the Kicks is established for pregnant women of all races, there is a frightening disparity of stillbirths in women of color. We need to combat this. The Count the Kicks App puts you, the mom, in the driver’s seat. Its ease of use and likeability are the reasons the program is so successful.”
