Dr. L. Joy Baker is a Board-Certified general Obstetrician and Gynecologist in LaGrange, Georgia. She has worked in both urban and rural communities for more than 10 years since completing her medical school and residency training with honors at the Morehouse School of Medicine and Grady Health System.
She currently serves as Director for Quality & Safety for Women’s Health at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center, where she is Department Chair of OB/GYN and Pediatrics. She is one of the first physicians in the United Stated to complete a HRSA fellowship in Transformational Healthcare Leadership at the Morehouse School of Medicine, and successfully completed the Medical Association of Georgia’s prestigious Physician Leadership Academy, earning recognition as a GA Trends “Top Doc” in the OB/GYN Division.
In 2019, Baker was one of the first OB/GYN physicians in the U.S. to earn special certification in Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, as well as treatment of addiction in pregnancy. Her clinical and research interests currently include advancing Health Equity — particularly with regard to maternal morbidity/mortality, state-wide perinatal quality improvement, and maternal mental health. She speaks on these topics locally, regionally and nationally.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Baker’s passion for educating and empowering the public prompted her to launch Delivering Joy MD on all social media platforms to connect virtually with her patients and others to provide reliable women’s health information. In 2022, BeeTV33 partnered with Baker to place her weekly “Well Woman Wednesday”segment on West GA’s local TV and ROKU stations.
Dr. Baker is a Georgia native, born in LaGrange to a family with a long history of service in the LaGrange and surrounding communities. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and The Links, Incorporated. She worships and serves at Impact United Methodist Church where she is a certified lay minister. Dr. Baker enjoys roller skating, music, books, shopping for discounts, and interior design.
