Hi, my name is Emma Wambeke, and I live in Northern Illinois with my husband, Tyler. I grew up in a suburb of Chicago. I earned a degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where I developed a strong interest in how science helps us understand the body and improve health.

During my otherwise low-risk pregnancy with my son, Owen, in 2024, I wanted to track his movements but couldn’t find a clear definition of what that should look like. At 37 weeks I noticed he was moving less. I sensed something was wrong, but I didn’t have the knowledge or language to convey my concern. A week later we learned Owen no longer had a heartbeat.

In the months that followed I discovered the Count the Kicks app, which provides families with a simple, evidence-based way to track movement and recognize changes. It felt like an answer to the question I had carried: “What could I have done differently?”

Now, as an ambassador for Healthy Birth Day, Inc., I’m passionate about sharing this life-saving tool with other families. My hope is to help moms feel confident and empowered to use Count the Kicks as a way to advocate for their baby and trust their instincts when movements change.
