Hello! My name is Judy White, a full-spectrum doula serving North Jersey families. January 2026 kicks off my 7th year as a birth, postpartum and bereavement doula. It will be the first year I can support the effort to reduce preventable stillbirth as a Count The Kicks Ambassador!
My nephew, Ben, was born still at nearly full-term, a beautiful little boy who got to live in our hearts rather than in my sister and brother-in-laws’ arms. I held a still baby in my arms until my clients were ready to receive her, honoring her birth and her passing.
As a first-time parent, I was unprepared for warning signs of early labor and spent weeks on bedrest, in the hospital and eventually delivering my son early. I remember wondering why and how people learned the information to help me, because it had been my responsibility to protect us. It seemed to me that I deserved not to be saved. Thankfully, other people had the skills and knowledge, and we were fortunate.
Fast forward 30 years, and the best parts of my life are the ones that include my kids — eating a meal, celebrating a birthday, or playing a game. These are small moments by description to some, but I am certain that had I lost my son in 1996, I would not have had more children. My life would look nothing like the one that I live now, and it’s important to me that my gratitude and experiences are used to support others through Count the Kicks educational tools.
Count The Kicks is one way that I can share knowledge and power with families. It is accessible, impactful and potentially life-altering. My excitement and pride at being part of this effort on any level, personally with my clients, jointly with the other ambassadors, or at the request of the amazing people running Count the Kicks is overwhelming. To be associated with so many of the powerful, emotionally resilient ambassadors featured here is an honor. Working alongside so many people who continue to give of themselves in honor of their most important people, in person and spirit, is humbling. My goal will always be to serve the initiative, families, and fellow ambassadors with my best effort and thanks.
