For so many families who have experienced stillbirth, the heartbreaking reality is that their stories often begin the same way: “I noticed decreased fetal movement.”
That was my reality, too. At 37 weeks pregnant, I lost my beautiful daughter, Selena Sophia, to stillbirth. One day, I was preparing to welcome her into the world, and the next my world was shattered. The pain of losing her was — and still is — indescribable. No parent should have to endure that kind of heartbreak.
After my loss, I started searching for answers. That’s when I learned about the power of tracking fetal movement. I realized that something as simple as counting kicks could help save lives. I couldn’t help but wonder: What if I had known? What if I had spoken up sooner? Those questions haunted me, but they also fueled me. I knew I had to do something to help other parents avoid this kind of pain.
That’s why I joined Count the Kicks. This program is more than just education — it’s a mission to save babies. Through awareness, advocacy, and support, we’re empowering parents to recognize the signs that their baby might be in distress and to trust their instincts. Research shows that tracking fetal movement in the third trimester can reduce the risk of stillbirth, and I want to make sure every expectant parent knows that.
Selena Sophia changed my life in ways I never could have imagined. By sharing her story and supporting this program, I hope to turn my grief into action — so that more families get to bring their babies home safely.
