Shannon Ebarb, MSN, RNC, is an experienced nurse with 24+ years in nursing, specializing in maternal health and currently practicing in Labor and Delivery. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing, Leadership and Management and maintains multiple national certifications including Inpatient Obstetrics, Maternal Newborn Nursing, Inpatient Antepartum Nursing, External Fetal Monitoring, Obstetric Newborn Quality and Safety, and Obstetrical Emergencies.

Shannon serves as a clinical instructor for Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students, where she is committed to developing competent, safety-focused future nurses through hands-on clinical education and mentorship. She is also an AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Instructor, providing evidence-based education to support high-quality intrapartum care and improved maternal and neonatal outcomes. Her professional passion centers on maternal health, patient safety, and quality improvement, with a strong focus on reducing maternal morbidity, mortality, and preventable adverse outcomes through education, standardization, and advocacy.

I learned about the Count the Kicks campaign during an AWHONN meeting and my heart just did flips.  I know someone personally that has experienced the loss of a child, and while talking with her, she was just not educated on what to do if she noticed her baby not kicking as much.  This conversation made me realize we need more education in Louisiana.

We assume their OB-GYN is addressing this issue, but come to find out they are not or its very limited education.  As a labor and delivery nurse we often see outpatients for different reasons, and this is a perfect time to be an advocate for the unborn child and educate the mother on what to do.  My passion is maternal health, and I plan on bringing this information to the maternal deserts with community education fairs. I am also educating the doctors offices within my area.  My goal is to reduce the number of stillbirths due to ‘just not knowing’ and hopefully provide the education needed for moms to seek observation for any and all concerns related to her pregnancy.
