My name is TaKiesha Smith, and I live in Fishers, Indiana with my husband, Wayne, and our two kids. When I’m not helping babies arrive or hanging out with the hubby, I am most likely curled up with a good book (OK, several books) or binging the latest TV show while hand knitting a blanket.
I am a DONA trained birth doula, a Community Health Worker and a Certified Lactation Consultant. I have always been passionate about education and advocacy (having been a secondary education teacher earlier in life).
When I heard the story of Count The Kicks on a podcast, I immediately went and downloaded the app. In my role as a birth doula, I spend lots of time educating clients on empowering themselves with evidence-based knowledge and the importance of fetal movement (especially in late pregnancy). After checking the app out, I started recommending it to my clients since I could see the impact it could have. The Count The Kicks app and toolkit helps birthing people have self-confidence when engaging with medical personnel about what is right for their baby.
I am excited to work with this organization to bring awareness of kick counting to improve the outcomes of Indiana families. Our state has a lot of work to do to improve its stillbirth rate and I am excited to be a part of the process.
