Meet Skyler
- Baby Saves
Skyler was a very active baby and was always very active on ultrasounds until Sept. 23, 2019. I was 35 weeks and 3 days along, and I noticed that he wasn’t moving as much and that it was taking longer than normal to get his 10 kicks. I called the doctor and asked if I should come and get checked out, and she suggested I come in if he didn’t get the 10 kicks in 2 hours.
At 9:30 p.m., my husband and I went down to the OB emergency room where they started the non-stress test right away. After about 10 minutes, they said they were going to do an ultrasound because the non-stress test was flatter than normal. During the ultrasound, he wasn’t having much movement, but still had a good heart rate. After he failed the non-stress test and the ultrasound, the doctor came in and said we were going to do an emergency Cesarean because he was letting us know that he isn’t thriving in his environment.
Skyler was born 45 minutes later at 12:49 a.m. He was taken up to the NICU right after birth because he wasn’t breathing very well on his own. He is still in the NICU four weeks later, but he is doing amazing and should get to go home soon!
The doctors told me that I saved his life by coming in and getting checked out. We still do not know the exact reason as to why his movement decreased, but I will forever be thankful that I was informed about Count the Kicks because it saved his life and made me a mom. -Taylor B., Skyler’s mom
