Meet Miles
- Baby Saves
“When I was 29 weeks pregnant I was unfortunately hospitalized and diagnosed with severe preeclampsia. The medical team thankfully was able to stabilize my blood pressure and after a week of close monitoring I was discharged home with very close follow-up appointments until a planned 34 week induction.
At discharge, the nurse told me about Count the Kicks, which is when I downloaded the Count the Kicks App and learned the importance of being aware of Miles’ normal movement pattern. Everything was going fine. Miles’ looked great on all of his scans for the following weeks as we approached the induction day. On Saturday, Aug. 17 we were spending the day waiting around to be called in for my induction. That afternoon I noticed that Miles wasn’t as active as he usually is but I chalked it up to my anxiety because of the induction. For the next few hours I waited for Miles’ to kick and realized he had stopped moving a few hours back.
My husband and I went into the OB-GYN Emergency Room and once I was placed on the fetal monitoring strip, it detected that Miles’ was having late heart rate decelerations. We were rushed back for an emergency cesarean section and shortly after met our baby boy.
Things were scary as we spent a month in the NICU, but Miles is now home and thriving. I am so grateful that I was educated on the importance of kick counting and trusted my instincts to go to the hospital that day. Count The Kicks saved my son’s life and I’ll forever be grateful!” -Rose E., Miles’ mom
