“I found Count the Kicks on the app store after I saw videos on TikTok about how important kick counting was in the 2nd to 3rd trimester. I started kick counting when I noticed my baby had a routine. Around 23 weeks was when I knew the times he was most active, which were early in the morning, after lunch, and late at night.

At 25 weeks and 2 days, I noticed my baby’s movements had decreased. Then I started to notice I was leaking amniotic fluid. I went to the hospital I was going to deliver at, and they ended up sending me home.

The next day, I felt sluggish and tired, which was out of the norm for me. Later that day, I was doing my usual counting, and I noticed my baby’s movements were still irregular, and he was less active. Then I lost my mucus plug and started getting what felt like Braxton Hicks. My mom kept pushing for them to test me for amniotic fluid and we went to the ER. When they did, they found I had ruptured and sent me to The Hospital of Providence Memorial Campus.

That Friday, July 25, 2025, my baby was born at exactly 26 weeks. My son, Roman, had a long NICU stay that lasted 122 days. For two of those months, we weren’t sure he was going to make it due to his respiratory and cardiac issues.

If it wasn’t for Count the Kicks, I wouldn’t have known the signs of distress my baby was expressing. Luckily, I was able to act on it in time to save my baby. Roman is now almost 8 months old, clear of any heart problems, and uses very minimal oxygen.

I want to share my story to express the importance of kick counting and how the Count the Kicks app allowed me to spot those signs I could’ve missed. I would advise other expecting parents to keep strong and enjoy the small moments. Sometimes it feels like you’re never going to get decent sleep but it’ll come. Enjoy your baby and those late nights with them because they’ll never be that small again.” -Geniva D., Roman’s mom
