Meet the Five New Count the Kicks App Features

The free Count the Kicks app just got even better with five new app features.

The Count the Kicks app helps expectant parents track their baby’s movements during the third trimester. We’re excited to introduce four new features designed to make tracking your baby’s movements easier, more convenient and more personalized throughout pregnancy. You can now time contractions, celebrate milestones with badges, scan paper kick counting charts and use the app in dark mode.

Here’s what you need to know about each one.

Track contractions with the contraction timer

As pregnancy progresses, you may begin paying closer attention to contractions and wondering when it’s time to contact your health care provider or head to your hospital or birthing center.

Created in response to popular demand from app users and doctors, the new contraction timer makes it easy to track the duration and frequency of contractions in the same place you do your daily kick counts.

With the timer, you can log when a contraction starts and ends and keep track of how frequently contractions are occurring. Having that information readily available can help you communicate with your health care provider and follow the guidance you’ve received about when to go to your planned place of birth.

Every pregnancy is different, so talk with your health care provider about what to expect and when you should contact them or go to the hospital or birthing center.

Celebrate milestones with badges

There are plenty of milestones during pregnancy. Now, you can celebrate some of them in the Count the Kicks app, too.

We’ve added digital badges that you can earn as you use the app and reach different milestones. Complete your first movement monitoring session and you’ll earn the “Kickstarter” badge. Earn the “Weekly Streak Champion” badge when you complete seven days of kick counting. Visit the “MyZone” section of the app to view your achievements!

These badges are a small way to see your progress and add a little fun to your daily kick counting routine. And if you’re someone who likes seeing those little checkmarks along the way, you’ll probably enjoy this one.

Easily add manual kick counting sessions

Do you use a paper kick counting chart? We’ve made it easier to bring that information into the app.

The new optical character recognition, or OCR, feature allows users to scan a paper Count the Kicks chart and automatically import the information as a kick counting session in the app. That means no more manually entering the information from your paper chart.

If you’ve been using paper charts and want to start keeping your information in the app, this feature makes that switch much simpler. Visit the “MyZone” section in your app, click on “Scan Printed Kicks Counter” and follow the instructions to start scanning.

This feature can be especially helpful for health care providers and community organizations working with expectant parents in rural areas or other settings where paper charts may be more accessible or familiar.

Use the app in dark mode

Maybe your baby kicks at all hours of the night, and a bright screen isn’t always what you want at 2 a.m.

The Count the Kicks app now has a dark mode feature that provides a more comfortable viewing experience in low-light settings. You can choose the display that works best for you, whether that means using dark mode at night or sticking with the regular view during the day. Visit My Zone in the app and click the moon icon to turn dark mode on and off.

Join the community who counts around the world

You’re not alone in counting your baby’s kicks! The new Community Who Counts feature, found on the home page of the Count the Kicks app, lets you see where expectant parents around the world are monitoring their babies’ movements and how many moms are counting kicks each day.

It’s a fun way to see just how many people are making movement monitoring part of their daily pregnancy routine. Every day, expectant parents around the world are taking time to get to know their babies’ normal movement patterns, helping build a community committed to healthier pregnancies and stillbirth prevention.

Count your way, every day

These updates were designed to make the Count the Kicks app an even better tool to support your pregnancy journey.

The app is still free, and the heart of it is still the same: helping you learn your baby’s normal movement pattern so you know when something changes. Your baby’s movements are one way your baby communicates with you. By using the Count the Kicks app every day in your third trimester, you’ll soon get to know your baby’s personality through their movements. You may also find that it’s a great way to spend some time bonding with your baby, too.

Download the free Count the Kicks app, begin tracking at 28 weeks (or 26 weeks if high-risk or pregnant with multiples), and make movement monitoring a part of your daily routine. And remember: If you notice a change in your baby’s normal movement pattern, contact your healthcare provider right away.
