After the stillbirth of my full-term daughter, Madison Rose, in 2020, you can imagine I was on edge the entire pregnancy. I hadn’t heard of Count the Kicks during my first pregnancy, but during a routine non-stress test (NST) visit this time, I noticed a Count the Kicks poster on the wall.

I downloaded the app, and it quickly became a vital part of my pregnancy journey. With an anterior placenta, feeling consistent movements was more difficult, but I set aside intentional quiet time each day to really focus on my baby and track his movement using the Count the Kicks App.

Using the app really brought me relief when I was having anxiety about any sort of low movement. I began to feel a connection with my baby — something that had felt almost impossible due to the fear of experiencing another stillbirth. Everyone around me knew how much I used the app. Even my mother encouraged me to use the app if I was feeling anxious.

During my 35th week, I noticed a decrease in my son’s movements. Because I had been using the app multiple times daily, I knew his normal pattern so I could confidently advocate for care. I ended up being diagnosed with gestational hypertension and was admitted to the hospital until he was born. We made a plan with my doctor to have him within that week because of the hypertension and my history of undiagnosed preeclampsia.

My son was delivered safely at 36 weeks and 4 days. I really think Count the Kicks was one of the main things that helped my son get here safely.  Every mother deserves the chance to bond with her baby and feel empowered through her pregnancy. Count the Kicks gave that to me.” Nicole F., Maddox’s Mom
