Meet Margot
- Baby Saves
“I first heard about Count the Kicks on TikTok from a video posted by Jen Hamiliton. I started counting kicks daily and really got to know my baby’s movements. She was very active and usually non stop, especially at certain times of the day.
One morning I woke up and noticed very little movement. This was unusual, as normally the first thing in the morning was when I noticed most movements. I gave it some time to see if my baby would start moving more once I was up and moving but this didn’t happen. At this time I called my local midwife triage unit and was advised to come in for a check.
The midwives were amazing and took my concerns very seriously. When I got to the hospital I was placed on the fetal monitor. She explained that the heart rate was heightened and that there are normally big dips in the reading but it was not happening. I was only on the monitor for around 15 minutes when the doctor decided an emergency cesarean section was needed and we were taken immediately.
I had a placental abruption and there was a blood clot in the placenta. When the baby was born she was taken through to pediatric resuscitation where she needed oxygen and extra monitoring. Afterwards we were told how lucky we were that both of us were safe and healthy as I had no other symptoms.
If I didn’t know my baby’s movements neither of us would be here today. It’s so important to know what’s normal for you and your baby and if there’s any change at all please get checked. I am very grateful for Count The Kicks.” -Emily M., Margot’s mom
